The Original Dreamers: New Mexico Dreamers in Action

Our Parents are the Original Dreamers –

The room crowded with young and old, documented and undocumented. Most important was the delicious mix of language, food, and family, coming together to hear undocumented immigrant students, families and allies share their stories and honor their parents.

The New Mexico Dreamers in Action (NM DIA) know their parents took a big step when they came to the United States to offer them a better life. In many occasions families have to flee violence and hunger, looking for a better tomorrow, working hard, not only for themselves, but their entire family.

On April 5, 2013 New Mexico Dreamers in Action (NM DIA), with the help of Strong Families New Mexico (SFNM) hosted "Celebrando a Los Primeros Soñadores: Celebrating Our Parents, the Original Dreamers Community Event". Watch the video blogs created at that event, dedicated to the Parents of the Dreamers, aka, the original Dreamers!

NM DIA also used this celebration to recognize state legislators, elected officials, and community partners who have stood with immigrant students and families.

Strong Families NM and NM DIA will be hosting another Celebrating Our Parents, the Original Dreamers event on Friday, June 14th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The event will be taking place at Kit Carson Park, located on 1600 Kit Carson Ave, Albuquerque, NM. Everyone is welcome to this event; food provided.

Nuestros padres son los soñadores originales –

La habitación se encontraba llena de jóvenes y adultos, indocumentados y documentados. Lo más importante fue la deliciosa mescla de lenguaje, comida y familias que se reunieron para escuchar a estudiantes indocumentados, a familias y aliados compartir sus historias y honrar a sus padres.

Los “Sonadores en acción de Nuevo México” (NMDIA, por sus siglas en inglés) saben que sus padres tomaron un gran paso al venir a Estados Unidos para ofrecerles una mejor vida. En muchas coacciones las familias tuvieron que huir violencia y hambre, buscando un mejor mañana, trabajando duro, no solo para ellos sino para su familia entera.

En Abril 5, 2013 los “Sonadores en Acción de Nuevo México”, con la ayuda de “Familias Fuertes Nuevo México” organizaron un evento titulado "Celebrando a Los Primeros Soñadores”. Miren el video blog creado durante el evento y dedicado a los padres de los soñadores, también conocidos como los “sonadores originales”.

NM DIA también uso esta celebración para reconocer a los legisladores estatales, funcionarios electos y a las organizaciones que han estado apoyando a las familias y estudiantes inmigrantes.

“Familias Fuertes Nuevo México” y NM DIA estarán organizando otro evento titulado "Celebrando a Los Primeros Soñadores”. Este evento se llevara a cabo el viernes, 14 de junio de 5:00 pm a 7:00 pm en el parque Kit Carson Park, localizado en el 1600 Kit Carson Ave. Toda la familia es bienvenida y habrá comida.
